Lost in Writing

ree

Hello all!

I've been silent on the blog and socials because I'm participating in National Novel Writing Month!

The goal is to get 50,000 words written for the event, but mine is to finish the rough draft of Severe Edifice before the month is over.

I have been finding plot holes in my plans as I go, and am continuing to build the world around the novel as I write it.

And it's much spicier than I imagined it would be when I planned it! It's a new experience for me, and I hope it's going well. But this novel isn't for the faint of heart!

I'm over 47,000 words, so I'm excited to see the event milestone will be behind me soon. HOPEFULLY I'll have the entire rough draft done in the next week or so.

I thought I'd share some background for my main character, Isalie Whylshard, and what makes her tick.

Isalie has a warm, tawny complexion that tends toward severe blushes across cheeks, ears, and neck, She has dark blue eyes and dull, flaxen hair often pulled back and prone to flyaways that make her look frazzled. She is slightly overweight but strong. She is very unsure of herself, lovestruck since childhood and awestruck. She doesn’t know how she fits into a world with magic when she has no special skills. She is a good cook, can improvise a meal out of very little, is good with money, world-wise, and a good judge of character. She is unhappy with the treatment of people like her, the Stills, who have no magic. And she has a hard time keeping quiet about that treatment. Which puts her in danger.

I'll send out a newsletter with a bit of the rough draft later this month, once I'm closer to finishing writing and have a bit more room to do other things!
